Baby and children’s health

Wollongong Family Practice prioritise appointments for children with acute illnesses, fevers, rash, vomiting, diarrhea, injuries.

Wollongong Family Practice provides a comprehensive range of baby and children’s health services.

Including:

  • Baby and Childhood Checks (as per the NSW Personal Health Record (“Blue Book”))
  • From the newborn to age 4. Regular healthy child checks ensure that early detection of lifestyle risk factors, delayed development and illness. It is an opportunity to discuss with the doctor early healthy lifestyle and intervention strategies.
  • Baby and Childhood Immunisation (as per the NSW Immunisation Schedule).
  • Missed Highschool immunisation can be provided at the practice as a ‘catch up’. Further advise on any additional immunisations that your child may require can be provided.
  • Management of acute childhood illnesses (e.g. coughs and colds, rashes, gastroenteritis)

Preventative Health Checks

Wollongong Family Practice offers a range of comprehensive preventive health checks that aim to promote early detection and modification of lifestyle risk factors, to prevent or delay the onset of chronic disease. They also provide an opportunity to discuss with your doctor guidance on healthy lifestyles and early intervention strategies.

  • Health Check for people aged 45 to 49 years who are at risk of developing chronic disease
  • Health Check for people aged 40 to 49 years with a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes

This check is for all patients who are aged 40 to 49 years (or 15 to 54 years (inclusive) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) who are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Health Check for people with an intellectual disability

This check is for patients who have a significant intellectual disability and who would benefit from assistance with daily living activities.

Health Check for refugees and other humanitarian entrants (interpreters can be arranged if required)

  • Health Check for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People

A preventive health check will include a thorough history, examination and investigations and a discussion of advice and recommended interventions, including strategies to achieve lifestyle and behaviour changes. Please discuss your eligibility with your doctor.

  • A comprehensive assessment of vaccination and medication needs based on your medical history and travel itinerary
